What structured data does, in plain English

It’s a small piece of code, invisible to visitors, that restates your business details in a format machines can read without guessing. It helps search engines understand your page. It does not, on its own, change your rankings or make any AI tool recommend you.

See what AI says about your business

Structured data makes your details easier for machines to read. It doesn’t tell you whether AI is actually recommending you when customers ask. Our free check asks AI the kinds of questions your customers ask in your city and shows your score and grade, all four dimension scores, mentions across 8 questions, the most-mentioned competitor, cited sources.

How to use it

How to use the generator

  1. Pick your business type

Choose the most specific match, for example Dentist, Plumber, HVAC business or Restaurant. If you offer more than one kind of service, you can choose up to three.

  2. Enter your basic details

Business name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, phone number and website URL. Use exactly the same name, address and phone number that appear on your website and your Google Business Profile.

  3. Add your hours

Choose the days and times you're open. If you're open 24 hours or by appointment only, say so in the form.

  4. Add optional details

Price range, a logo or photo URL, your service area, and links to your profiles on other sites (for example your Google Business Profile or Yelp page).

  5. Add FAQs (optional)

Enter the questions and answers that are already visible on the page where you'll paste the code. Don't add questions that aren't on the page.

  6. Copy the code

You'll get two separate code blocks: one for LocalBusiness and one for FAQs. Each has its own Copy button. Paste them on your site using the steps for your website builder below.

  7. Test it

Run the checks in How to test your code before you move on.

Tip: the code should match what visitors see. If your hours or phone number change, update both the page and the code.

Paste the code

How to add the code to your website

The code you copy already includes the <script type="application/ld+json"> tags, so paste it exactly as it is. Don’t edit it in a word processor first, because “smart quotes” can break the code.

Wix accepts structured data in JSON-LD format only. Each markup must be under 7,000 characters, and you can add up to five per page. Our generator shows the character count for each block.

Before you start: if you’ve already added your business name and location in Wix, Wix may have created LocalBusiness markup for your homepage automatically. If so, either keep Wix’s version and paste only the FAQ block, or exclude the preset and use ours. Don’t run both, because two different LocalBusiness descriptions of the same business can confuse search engines.

In the Wix Studio editor:

  1. Open your editor and click Pages & Menu on the left.
  2. Click the More Actions icon (⋯) next to the page, usually your homepage or contact page.
  3. Click SEO basics, then the Advanced SEO tab.
  4. Click Structured Data Markup, then + Add New Markup.
  5. Paste the LocalBusiness block and click Apply.
  6. Repeat steps 4–5 for the FAQ block, if you’re using one.
  7. Publish your site.

From the Wix dashboard:

  1. Go to SEO & GEO in your dashboard, scroll to Tools and settings and click SEO Settings.
  2. Choose Main Pages, click Edit by Page and select the page.
  3. Open the Advanced tab and click Structured data markup.
  4. Click + Add New Markup, give it a name (for example “LocalBusiness”), paste the code and click Apply.
  5. Publish your site.

Check the markup

How to test your code

Test in two places. It takes about two minutes.

LocalBusiness

Google’s Rich Results Test

Open the Rich Results Test (opens in a new tab). Paste your page URL after publishing, or use the Code tab to paste the code before publishing. Click Test. You want Local business detected with no errors. Warnings about missing recommended fields are fine to fix later.

FAQPage

Schema Markup Validator

Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in 2026, so its Rich Results Test no longer checks FAQ markup. Paste the FAQ code, or your page URL, into the Schema Markup Validator (opens in a new tab) and confirm it shows 0 errors.

Common fixes

  • “Unparsable structured data” or invalid JSON: the code was changed while pasting, often because of curly quotes or a missing bracket. Copy it again from the generator and paste it into a plain-text box.
  • Missing field “address”: Google needs a business name and address for LocalBusiness. If you serve customers at their location and don’t show your street address, enter at least your city, state and ZIP code.
  • Nothing detected on the live URL: republish the site, clear any cache plugin, and test again. It can take a few minutes for changes to go live.

After the test passes, Google still needs to recrawl the page. You can request this with the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console if you use it.
